In brief

The table below gives the candle-lighting and havdalah times in Krakow for every Friday and Saturday of 2027. Candles are lit 18 minutes before sunset. Shabbat starts earliest in December, at 15:20 (10.12), and latest in June, at 20:35 (25.06). Havdalah falls between 16:34 and 22:03. For an organizer these are two different puzzles: in winter the whole Friday is short, in summer Saturday evening runs late into the night.

How to read the times

The times come from the Hebcal calculator for Krakow: candles 18 minutes before sunset, havdalah as calculated by Hebcal. Many communities keep their own custom (a different number of minutes before sunset, a different time for the end of Shabbat), so the final times for a group are given by its rabbi. The times shift by an hour twice a year with daylight saving time: on 28 March and 31 October 2027.

Planning the programme around these times

  • Winter (November - February): candles are lit soon after 15:00, so Friday travel, check-in and setting up the dining room must be ready early. On a full-day trip, plan the last return with a margin for traffic.
  • Summer (June and July): havdalah falls around 22:00. Saturday evening is long, so plan the meal after havdalah and any transport with a generous margin for a tired group.
  • Around the clock changes (March, October): the times jump by an hour from one week to the next. Check the table for the exact date; do not count from the week before.
  • Holidays: on holidays the times and rules differ from an ordinary Shabbat; the table covers ordinary Fridays and Saturdays. On Saturdays that are also a holiday (02.10, 16.10, 23.10) there is no havdalah in the evening - the table shows a dash.
